Day 1, 23rd June 2018

On Saturday 23rd June we took on the amazing roller coaster circuit that is Portimao. Very hard to put together the perfect lap here as it’s very easy to make the smallest mistake that will cost a lot of time in a GT4 that needs momentum to complete a fast lap. The weather is beautiful but very hot in the car making for an interesting challenge for car, driver and tyres. I qualified 6th with position 2-6 all within one tenth of each other but I couldn’t put together a perfect lap. Left me some work to do in the race! I then managed to take opportunities when other cars made contact or other mistakes and finished the race in 2nd with my closest championship contender not finishing so I extended my championship lead.

Day 2, 24th June 2018

Come Sunday and the temperature is higher still and with blisters in my hands after the first race day I put on some blister plasters and get on with it. Qualified 3rd this time with a much better lap and the pole sitter was a pro driver and his times were not recognised for the championship. Had a great start but couldn’t pull a lead on the car behind me who was on new tyres with me having to start on a more worn qualifying set. A few laps in he got a better run out of the last corner and managed to pass me on the pit straight. I had a go at coming back at him by passing him into turn 3 but now on the inside coming into the hairpin at turn 4 I carried slightly too much speed and he was able to regain his place. Finished the race in 3rd however once again my closest competitor for the championship finished 4th so again extended my championship lead.

Good weekend! Now onto Paul Ricard for the next round!
